Contractor’s Liability Insurance
Most states mandate the purchase of a general contractor’s liability policy. Local townships and municipalities also often require local contractors to have this policy.
Coverage (and exclusions) can vary from policy to policy and different limits are offered that often may need to be increased. Obviously, a construction site can be a dangerous place and no matter how careful the contractors, subcontractors, and their employees are, the potential for damage to property or personal injury is great.
New York State has many inherent difficulties because of the introduction of various labor laws that specifically impact the construction industry. JWA understands the potential pitfalls in placing contractor’s liability coverage in this state and can structure a policy that leaves no potentially harmful exclusions.
It is also recommended that contractors purchase a commercial umbrella policy, especially when the construction cost exceeds $1,000,000.
